Fiber Friends Notes from 10/21/2026
Friends,
What a fun meeting! Thanks to everyone who was able to join us for the October gathering! Welcome to our new Friends! It was almost too nice to have been inside but it was wonderful to spend the day with such a talented crew. Here's the October "newsletter" documenting resources mentioned during the sharing session or learned during group conversations, along with photos of some of the projects. Hopefully, the web-based format remains easy to use. At the moment, we continue to host this newsletter on the Reed and Flyer website, which Lora and Dave use occasionally. If you operate a website in conjunction with your fiber work, please send us a link; we'd gladly add it to the collection. We will not post a Fiber Friend's website without their permission. Hopefully, this will make it easier to follow up on meeting resources. Apologies if we missed something along the way. Images are also linked when websites are available.
Fiber Friends
2026 Dates
We are always grateful to everyone who pitches in to make sure we have refreshments, and to those who add a few dollars to the box as a small thank-you to Camp Dudley for allowing us to use the location.
Our last meeting of the terrific Fiber Friends year, 2026, will be on November 18, 2026, 2-5 PM, at the Camp Dudley Leadership Barn. Hopefully, with the backward adjustment to daylight saving time, most folks will be able to join for most of the meeting. Please feel free to leave when it makes sense for you, given your travel needs.
We will not meet in December. Enjoy the holidays!
Dave is working with Camp to get the 2027 dates on the Camp calendar and will send a special email with those dates once they are set.
BAM Fiber Works states on their website, "I aim to take fiber crafting to a whole new level. Founded in 2013 in Central Kentucky. I specialize in high-quality fiber processing tools that have COMPLETELY original features you can’t find anywhere else." We recently learned about them from a vendor at the Washington County Fiber Show in October and have discovered their claim of completely original features to be 100% true. After contacting them about a specialty tool for a fiber comb that does not yet exist, we proceeded to buy a small tabletop picker that was fun to demonstrate and let people try at the October Fiber Friends meeting. It is an amazing tool and very well built. We highly recommend this company (great email communication with the owner!) and their tools. Check out the link and the very interesting videos that illustrate the innovative tools they manufacture at very competitive prices.
This is a new feature in our Newsletter that connects you to software members use for their fiber-related work. To have your software listed, please email Dave@campdudley.org and include a link to where members can find the software.

Martha referenced this pattern from Gist. She has woven it and loves it because it wears so well. It is a free pattern and is available for rigid heddle and 4-shaft harnesses. Order the free pattern from Gist and then take advantage of Gail's contact above from Mad River Fiber Arts and Mill for the fiber.
Eileen shared news of the show and sale from the Hudson-Mohawk Weaver's Guild. It is rumored to be a wonderful show every year and it will happen before our next Fiber Friends gathering. For more info click here.
The Guild's home page is here.
Kerry and Sue said this is a favorite site to get generally complete video guidance about knitting stitches that might be new to you. They also have a wide selection of patterns for all types of clothing in a wide range of sizes. Sue also shared news of a recent New York Times article about the founder, Mette Wendelboe Okkels, and growth of PetiteKnit. The title of the article is "She Traded Her Scalpel for Knitting Needles and Launched a Thriving Business."
gather is a community-centered fiber arts retail, studio and gathering place in the heart of the Northern Berkshires. Located at 57 Spring Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts, the studio is nestled in the Purple Valley, adjacent to the Williams College campus and woven into the vibrant cultural fabric of the Berkshires.
gather is more than a retail space; it is a community hub for creativity, connection, and local pride. In an increasingly digital world, gather offers something tangible, personal, and human: a place where people come together to make, learn, share, and belong.
We hope you’ll join us for gatherings, classes and fiber inspiration that celebrate connection and local makers in this special corner of New England.
Shelburne Craft School across the Lake in Shelburne, VT, also offers a good selection of classes. Check out the selection of upcoming classes.
Jennifer brought some of her lovely alpaca to the September stash swap so the spinners and felters in the group could try her alpaca. Her herd of 38 alpacas grazes in Crown Point, and she is looking for folks to help spin the fiber. She offers a 50/50 split by weight of the fiber spun. (You get half, and she gets half of the spun fiber. ) She will also consider spinning-for-hire opportunities to help turn her fiber into yarn. To learn more, please contact Jennifer at JenniferStPierre@Yahoo.com.

Sue Young from Young's Gallery in Jay, has compiled a list of Knitting and Fiber groups that have come to her attention in Essex County. Check out her list here.
Referenced by Dave Langston previously. Fiber tools are expensive. Sometimes it is better to take a tool for a "test drive" to see if you need it or if you really want to make the investment.
To list a tool you would like to make available to share, go here.
To see tools folks have listed and that are available, go here.
Members of the Fiber Friends group who have permitted their fiber-related websites to be included are listed below. If you operate a website and would like to be included, please send an email with the link to the site to dave@campdudley.org.
Sue Young owns and operates Young's Studio and Gallery in Jay. Sue said to mention Fiber Friends when you visit.
Eileen Minder serves on the board at the Innovation Center in Saratoga, which is a collaborative Maker Space. Visit innovationcentersaratoga.org to learn more about their space, programs, and classes.

Just in case you are wondering, we did not create a gallery from every meeting. This happened by accident but it is a fun glimpse at some amazing projects and some great fellowship.
